The American kestrel is North America's smallest falcon — a jewel-like raptor with vivid rufous and blue-grey plumage, a bold facial mask, and the hovering hunting style that makes it one of the most recognisable birds of open country. This hand carved wooden kestrel, 10.5"H, captures those striking colours on a natural log base.

Aviologie's style has elements of distressing and natural variation that are part of what makes each piece unique. Their photos represent the birds accurately, but they are individually hand carved pieces with the soul of variation, not cast resin replicas.
Their bases are off cuts of wood logs that are intentionally left to the elements — sun, rain, and time to enhance natural character like a found object in the woods. Insect holes, cracks, weathering etc are intended to reflect Aviologie's imperfect, handmade aesthetic.

Designed on Vancouver Island by Anna & David, each bird is brought to life by the same three families of skilled artisans they have supported, and been supported by, for over 15 years.
