Hand Carved Wooden Spotted Sandpiper — Wing Down

The spotted sandpiper is one of those birds with a remarkable secret — it sometimes feigns a broken wing to draw predators away from its sand-laid nest. This hand carved wooden spotted sandpiper in the wing-down pose captures that dynamic, dramatic moment with careful spotted plumage detail throughout.

Handmade Character

Aviologie's style has elements of distressing and natural variation that are part of what makes each piece unique. Their photos represent the birds accurately, but they are individually hand carved pieces with the soul of variation, not cast resin replicas.

Our Story

Jesus said "consider the birds" (Luke 12:24), so they did!
Designed on Vancouver Island by Anna & David, each bird is brought to life by the same three families of skilled artisans they have supported, and been supported by, for over 15 years.
Drawing on centuries-old village carving techniques, they blend indigenous folk art with modern design to create timeless art pieces that are simple, refined, and equally at home in settings (rustic, classic or modern), as varied as their customers.
